STEAM programs typically teach teens about how
work together in everyday life and the workplace.
However, at BlueCheck Academy, our curriculum empowers teens to use
to generate income as freelance web designers.
Why web design?
Web designers in Georgia earn an average starting (annual) salary of $47k, with at least two years of experience, a lengthy portfolio, and no formal education.
While the state's child poverty rate is only 22.6%, there are about 432,000 Black and Hispanic children living in families where no parent has full-time, year-round employment.
By starting a design career and building a portfolio years before entering the workforce, our participants will place themselves ahead of the competition when applying to web design jobs -- regardless of their ability to afford a college education.
BlueCheck Academy provides entrepreneurship training to teens who are interested in starting a web design business online.
Participants will complete the program with certification & letters of recommendation verifying their ability to be hired as freelance web designers.
Our 6-week curriculum trains teens ages 13-19 for a freelance web design career by teaching the following skills:
The basics of web design (UX) and coding (including motion graphics).
The fundamentals of starting and running a small business (including laws & licensing requirements).
Marketing: social media marketing, digital marketing, how to develop marketing strategies for small businesses.
The art of networking and professional communication.
Public speaking: The Competitive Marketing Pitch.
